Comfort food is something we look forward to at the end of a long hard day. What makes us love comfort food so much, and why do we crave it when we are down? Well, because it’s just that–comfort food.
The high fat, sugar, and carbohydrate content is what makes us love it so. Comfort foods with fat, sugar, and carbohydrates trigger a biochemical and neurochemical response in our bodies, which causes a positive feeling when we consume them. That’s why we love comfort foods, because they comfort us and they make us feel happy.
We reach for comfort foods not only on a bad day, but also on a sick day. When we can’t go out and have a good time with our friends, we reach for comfort foods which provide us with a bit of happiness.
So, while we are all coughing and sneezing, eat a bowl of ‘Creamy Macaroni’–just because your body feels bad doesn’t mean your soul should!
We know comfort foods aren’t good for us, so we don’t do it all the time–but when we do, let’s go all out, shall we?
