Spirit Week at AHS started this week, in anticipation of the big Homecoming game that is happening Friday night. The first day of Spirit Week was “‘Merica Monday,” in which students displayed their spirit by wearing red, white, and blue.

Students were seen wearing all kinds of spirit-related apparel–tutus, crazy socks, and even an American flag as a cape.

Spirit Week has been a big hit, so far, with AHS students. Senior, Sierra Cuellar, said, “School spirit makes me feel like our school is united instead of separated into cliques, like it often is.”

Senior, Ashley Cottrell, said, “Spirit week makes me more excited about school and helps me feel more united as a school. It’s more of a welcoming environment when we do things together.”

Another senior, Alex Stephens, said, “School spirit increases the collaborative atmosphere among students. It is one of the few things high school students can enjoy outside of a strict academic environment, and to me, it translates to pride in my schools’ athletic teams.”

Stay tuned for more on Spirit Week! Tuesday was Twin Day, Wednesday is Breast Cancer Awareness Day, Thursday is Throwback Thursday, and Friday is Class Color Day (or Spirit Day).
