When the bell rings and it’s time to go home, what do you do?

After you get home from school, sometimes you just want to lay down and go to sleep. However, laying around every afternoon isn’t good for you. It’s very tempting to just lay on the couch, order a pizza, then go to bed. But by doing that, it means you’re giving up your free time to do something productive.

Being active can also help reduce stress levels. School, jobs, and sports can be hard to balance, so having a stress outlet can help you manage everything.

If you’re finding that all you do after school is go home, eat, sleep, and repeat, then here are some helpful tips for you.

Ashley, junior at Aberdeen,  said “Join a team or you could work out at home.”

Destiny, sophomore at Aberdeen, said “Get an after school job so you have something productive to do with your time.”

Being active doesn’t mean you only need to exercise, it can mean doing your homework or chores as soon as you get home from school or work. If you’re like us and need to keep busy to avoid the temptation of lounging around on the couch all day, you could go outside and do yoga.

Aubrey, senior at Aberdeen, said “I like to go outside and play with my siblings.”

Ashley said “I play soccer but I also play school sports every season.”

Destiny said “After school, I do yoga.”

To keep busy, stay active and try to manage your time so you don’t spend too much time wasting your day.

If you’re looking to apply to colleges, then getting active and joining a sports team will look good on a college application.

As you can see, being active can not only help you with your health, but it also helps you have a well-balanced life. So next time you get off the bus and plan to go home and sleep all afternoon, instead do some exercises or go for a walk. Get out and be active Aberdeen!
