Joppatowne’s men’s varsity soccer team came to Aberdeen on October 15 looking forward to an easy win; however, they were sadly mistaken. The game started at 3:30pm, and by 3:40pm, Joppatowne wanted to go home before it got any worse.

Starters for Aberdeen were Owen Smith as goalie, Xuan Tran, Oscar Fjellander, Jordan Watt, Devin Murray, Juan Vera, Duane Keller, Jon Baldauf, Tyler Green and senior class president Frank Jiogo.

Five minutes before halftime, a tree fell down and halted the game. Immediately after the tree fell, spectators, coaches and students ran over to check if anyone was injured. Luckily, everyone was okay, and the game continued on.

By the second half Aberdeen had switched from Owen Smith to Matthew Mengel at goalie. Aberdeen scored one goal after another. Joe Nichols scored, as well as Ethan Mauzy, followed by Jon Baldouf, and Flakron Salihu. The final goal was scored by Juan Vera.

Before the game, I talked with Frank Jiogo and asked him if he was worried about the game, and all he had to say was, “It’s Joppatowne; of course not.” He was right about not worrying. Aberdeen finished the game with a score of 7-0.
